Buyer beware is all I can say. To begin with I tried to update the firmware for the sansa view 16 GB player and my computer did not recognize the device. There was no icon for it, the reason being is that the player defaults to MTC mode and there is no option to select MSC mode which will allow the computer to recognize the device. The only way to upgrade the firmware is with the MSC mode which the existing firmware on the device has no options to change those settings too. There is a clunky workaround but why should a person have to resort to that. The users manual is pitiful when trying to look up information on the subject. Sad to say I am returning my purchase to Amazon and will get a Cowon d9 instead.

5Superb ProductNov 17, 2009
This mp3 is comparable to the IPOD Video without the price. The mp3 is so sleek I'm able to store it in my business card compartment in my purse. It's extremely easy to use and the sound is great. I purchased this item because it had 16gb of memory with the capability of adding additional memory by SD Micro. If you run out of space on your IPOD you're out of luck.

I LOVE MY SanDisk Sansa View Video MP3 PLAYER. I feel extremely smart for making this choice. I saved myself lots of money.

4Good enough for a first timerNov 12, 2009
I have tons of music and audio books and wanted something that would hold all of it. I am already 3/4 full and haven't even put 1 book on there yet. If you are serious about music you might want to go even higher than this. I already have about 2800 songs on it and never realized that I had that much music. Some of the controls are confusing and frustrating. I'm sure it will get better with time and experience but things that I think should be common sense operations work completely the opposite way. The real test will come when I put it in my truck and don't have to lug around my giant cd binder. I do love the fact that I can keep video on it (although that will take up a ton of space, too).

I bought this because I basically want anything but an iPod. I had one of the first Creative Zens which was slightly less than awful!
Sansa View is easy enough to use, but the battery life is not anywhere near what they claim. You're lucky if you get 5-6 hours out of it before recharging it. If you want to recharge it anywhere other than your computer USB, then you have to buy a converter. I bought a converter that you plug one end of the usb into it, then into the outlet. These are cheap on the internet. Anyway, my big problem is that it gets stuck when you are advancing to the next song. When you click to the next song, sometimes it sits for 30 seconds or more before going to that song, it just freezes. Now that I have had it for almost a year, the micro SD will no longer stay in the slot, the radio does not work, when you click on it nothing happens and the clock does not work. I am not the only one having these problems. If you search 'sansa view radio problems' you will find many people who have the same issue. I have tried re-formatting, updating firmware, nothing works. Also, when you turn it off, if you do not hold the switch down for 10 seconds, it only goes into a "sleep" mode where it uses the battery life. I had to search the internet to find that out! When you hold the button down for 10 seconds, it actually shuts off. Otherwise, when you turn it on, your battery will be run down. Sansa tech forum's recommendations did not work for me or anyone else! I'm buying something else.
