Good Navaigation Device But Not So Good Tablet PC!Jun 30, 2009 I jut got the Advent ADV3500PC. The navigation, NavMate, is at par with other navigation devices. As they all have their own quirks. The XP Home with 256 MB RAM and 30 Gig makes it usable for light use only. The ScanSoft TTS voice sound very natural. It is better than ATT TrueVoice. I installed MS Office 2003 and Adobe Reader 8.1.3. I decided to try it as a cheap alternative to Kindle. And I was surprised that it performed quite well! With built-in FM transmitter, the pdf files sounded real nice on the auto speakers!! The built-in speaker is fairly loud as well. I have not yet enabled the speech recognition commands. But perhaps they can be used to control the unit.
For the price it is not bad at all. I used the built-in bluetooth tethered to my Sprint phone to access the web to get the traffic via Google maps etc. The NavMate does not have traffic.
There is no recovery CD. So I will need to image the disk. All in all a fun and light usable book reader type of PC with great navigation. A great unit to take on vacation. I could easily connect an external usb hard disk and transfer all the digital camera images to it.
Navigation features are at www.horizonnav.com
Some notable likes and dislikes:
Likes:
- Great navigation device!
- Advent Desktop with shortcuts.
- Quick setup button on top.
- Alternative quick floating keyboard (much better than XP native soft keyboard).
- Good speaker.
- Bluetooth stack better then Windows blutooth. Bluetooth mouse worked very well.
Dislikes:
- No traffic for the navigation.
- Cheap plastic port covers
- No direct external monitor port. (Need the optional dock for external VGA)
- Short battery life (1.5 hours or so with all the wireless enabled)
- No "flight mode" button to easily shut-off wireless to conserve battery.
- No 3rd party software driver/install CD (only XP Home CD)
If only AudioVox/Advent had given the upgrade path to memory and disk, I would give it a 5 star!

Jensen NVX3000PC/Advent ADV3500PC/Uren V1Jun 27, 2009 Totally disagree with the previous reviewer. This thing is junk and there is no support for it from Jensen/Advent. It doesn't play video well only 1-2FPS and its BGA memory is soldered to the mother board, no upgrade. There are no copies of the software other than the xp home disk, no download page for the 3rd party software or xp drivers and firmware and they refuse to provide it, they claim "not available to end user." The map software is outdated and its $89 to update through a 3rd party. Stay far away from this thing.

Unbiased review for the Jensen NVX3000PCFeb 08, 2009 I have been wanting this item for sometime now but the lack of real reviews left me hesitant. My fiance finally got it for me and I am glad she did. For most users the hardware, 1 ghz processor and 256 ram, should be sufficient. The programs load fairly quickly. The gps is excellent having no problems picking up satellites. The audio and video playback is good as well. The video output to the tv is excellent with no loss in video quality as it can be with some laptops. Add a usb hard drive and this can be an excellent addition to your home video system. You can also use it to stream audio and video from your home pc once its properly configured. I would have like Jensen to have included the i/o expansion unit which adds vga and an ethernet port to the unit. I dont even know where to get the thing. The battery leaves something to be desired as well. Averaging about 2 hours. Most of the time my unit is hooked up to ac adapter or the car charger anyway so its not really an issue for me.
Now, if you are a techie, like me, for an extra $200 you can make this unit comparable to units costing three times that and that is the beauty of this thing for me. But even as it comes it is still worth the 450 and change. Hope this helps.
