4Good All Around SoundNov 05, 2009
I use these plugged straight into a 160gb Ipod with mp3 ripped at 192/256 bit rate, listening to mostly rock & techno & most other types of music as well. Would give them a 4.5 but amazon does not allow half stars so went with 4 stars.

These have impressive sound quality & work for all genres of music. It's very clear with good instrument separation. It has plenty of bass AND sub-bass, but does not overwhelm on songs that are not bass driven, which is a good thing. Cheaper phones with this amount of bass usually give you the same big bass on all songs, which is bad. The high freqencies are nicely rounded off, so you can listen for extended periods w/o it being harsh on your ears. For these reasons, this is a good all-around phone & can be enjoyed with all types of music going.

These are really impressive when listening in a quiet environment. But, they don't block out sound extremely well. So if you use them on a train or walking in traffic, you end up having to crank these things up really high or you loose a lot of detail & bass; giving you the choice of risk losing your hearing v. losing sound quality.

They are fairly light & relatively comfortable, as these things go.

A solid choice at the current $80's asking price, but would be even better if priced at $50 - $60 range, like the AKG K81DJ. I'd pick these over the AKG if they were the same price, but probably go with the AKG at current price levels & you want to save $30.

4More boom for your buckSep 21, 2009
I was attracted to these headphones for a number of reasons but primarily for their supposed packability, Audio-Technica's excellent sounds quality and their sexiness. I would like to comment on all three having now received my headphones and have had a chance to check em out. The packability is NOT what I was thinking it would be- the cups rotate so that the units lay flat, but they do not 'fold' up. While this was disappointing, I was easily sold on the other two issues. The sound quality and definition of low end bass far exceeds my Sony V700 DJs (which I love and they have lasted forever, but the low end bass never satisfied me). The sexiness factor of these phones is phenomenal as well- totally mirrored and brilliantly styled. Other ups? Comfortable, smaller than most in the same sound quality range and the cord is refreshingly short - better for personal use although not better for studio applications. I'm impressed, and from now on my v700 DJs will be gathering dust.

1Faulty ConstructionSep 16, 2009
I admit, the ES7's do sound and look awesome. But after only 3 days of use, they fell apart. The left wire just fell out of its socket. I was very sad/shocked to see such an expensive piece of hardware fall apart in a matter of DAYS! I didn't even own them for a week. Beware of buying this deceptively beautiful product.

5Best headset ive owned so farAug 31, 2009
I was going to get the beats by dre headset but i decided to do some reviews on comparable headsets and found this. in the end i saved almost $300 and couldnt be happier.

Always been a Sony person and especially their headphones. My last pair lasted many yrs. and they still sounded great up intil I lost them. I like their Monitor Series. Now I'm glad I decided to try something new with these headphones from Audio Technica. As far as an audio standard set and specs. I have no knowledge. For me its always how a headphone sounds with different types of music. He's were I think Sony has an edge. But again it depends on what type of music and tone you like. Sony's sound quality is more of what my music should sound like but These phones have qualities that make up for a slight difference in sound quality and the price is right. If you like over the ear Sony is the way to go but I have yet to spend a lot of hrs. on these but the initial try on says its a go. A super light cord goes a long way.
