5Windows 7 64-bit with Polar 720i AOKNov 05, 2009
I bought this device to sync data from my Polar 720i heart rate monitor. In addition to being cheaper than the Polar IR device (which is a piece of junk), it is more robust and gives indication in the tray when it sees an IR device - very nice.

When I upgraded from Vista 32-bit to Win7 64-bit, I had intended to remove this device during the upgrade and reinstall later, but I forgot. Win7 had no problem and found the driver early on. This device was truly plug-and-play.

If you are using a Polar watch with Polar Precision Performance software, just download the software (free) from Polar. Make sure you download the update as well (4.03.050) and run the update before running the software. You can try running the software like this, but when I had this in Vista it crashed every time I accessed the watch. However, if you set the preferences of the Polar software to "run this program as an administrator" (under "compatibility"), you'll be in business. Yes, you have to click through the UAC prompt every time you run it, but it works just like it did in XP.

4Syncs my Palm Z22 handheld using Vista 64 bit ComputerNov 04, 2009
I'd heard this device could allow me to sync my Palm Z22 handheld using a Windows Vista 64 bit computer (Palm doesn't support USB cable syncing with Vista 64 bit). It does work! For those interested in using this product I recommend checking out the Palm website forums for detailed instructions from Z22 users on how to prepare your device for infrared syncing. I loaded all the latest desktop and hotsync software from the Palm website onto my computer. I then plugged the USB1510 Irda Adapter into the extension cord that comes with the device (about 31 inches including connectors) and then plugged the extension cord into a USB slot on my computer. I did not use the installation mini-disk provided with this product, instead allowing Vista to automatically detect the device and download the latest drivers. The trickiest thing is positioning the device to "see" the handheld when you perform a sync. This may take a little experimentation. I have success placing the Irda adapter on the floor under my desk and then placing the Palm about an inch away with the black tip of the USB1510 pointing just to the left side of the infrared port on the top of the Palm. Bright light can interfere, so if you're having trouble initiating a sync, try dimming the lights in your room. I don't recommend holding the two devices in position manually (although I have done so a couple times) as infrared syncing can take longer than USB cable syncing. Also, infrared syncing will use some battery power, so make sure your Palm is fully charged before starting a sync. If you're looking for a sync solution for your Palm Z22 using a Vista 64 bit computer, this device definitely gets the job done!

5Great Product! It really works!!!Sep 23, 2009
I just got a POLAR S725X and was looking for a way to download the device data onto the PC. I also have a Vista 64 SP2 operating system. I did not have an IR device. All I did to get it to run was plug it into the USB port. Then, Vista recognized it. I then downloaded the Polar Weblink Software v2.4.11. And I was immediately able to use it. Not a single problem!!!

Of course, I went through a variety of unnecessary steps. I tried to use the disk they sent, but no setup.exe, readme, just a collection of directories. The good news, I found the Vista 64 directory--but had no idea what to do with O/S'ish files. I also found the documentation, but it was written in broken English (this is a Chinese product), and written for Windows 98 and Me - this was concerning - but since I saw the Vista 64 directory, I tried to stay calm.

In the end, I decided to just try it, plugged in the device, the OS recognized the needed drivers and its working.

This was a big relief since this product was $20 vs Polar's $60...

2Stopped working after a couple of usesSep 22, 2009
I had an older cell phone with infrared, so I bought this infrared adapter when I got a new laptop with only blue tooth capabilities. Similar to what I had read in some reluctant reviews of this product, it took 15-20 minutes to install the software and get my computer to recognize the port (I have a Sony Vaio SZ740 with Vista and MS Professional).

I was able to use the device a few times before it quit working for me. I could see in Explorer (Windows button + E) it was there, but my control panel infrared icon no longer recognized the adapter. Luckily I recently got a new phone with blue tooth and a micro SD card. I wouldn't recommend this adapter to a friend--I was hoping for a fairly cheap way to link my phone, but ended up with more headaches than it was worth.

1Absolutely, unequivocally, did not workSep 15, 2009
Tried for several hours on 2 different Vista PCs to get this thing up and running with a Polar F55 HRM. Same errors message on both machines no matter what process I used. No instructions for Vista on the (extremely outdated, poorly written) manuals on the disk and no instructions whatsoever on Cables Unlimited website even though they had a link for manuals. It just links to a blank page. The package stated Vista compatible but I would beg to differ.

I can't recommend it. Due to the wide range of reviews I would have to come to the conclusion the product is not consistent. It even averages 2 out of 5 stars on its own website. I probably could make it work eventually but any product that requires one to jump through numerous hoops when it should be simple plug & play functionality is not worth the price.

I already printed out my return label. Now I'm gonna roll back and scan both machines for walmare least their software sends personal info back to China.
