2Does not work wellSep 12, 2009
Nice idea but not very secure (thin wire) and the alarm easy to defeat. Buy the larger heavier wired Kensington model. I also recommend the keyed version rather than the combination lock. It just works better.

4Nice product - not many like it aroundAug 11, 2008
This is a realy one of a kind product
I tried to find it in a retail store to see it before purchasing on-line, but I couldn't find any alarmed computer locks at any "brick and mortor" stores.
The quality is good on the Kensington. I think the alarm siren could be a bit louder.

1Not Great With 13.3" Macbook (EDITED!!)Jun 07, 2008
After writing my review about this alarm, and messing around with the lock some more because I spent enough money on it to where I really, really would like for it to do its job, I would like to add 3 more stars to the review. This is why. The alarm comes with a soft black base for the lock that 'connects' to the macbook and ensures fit. However, I removed this, and the lock did NOT warp the side cover! I figured it was warping before because of poor fit, so I put the black base back and really pressed it harder (not too hard) into the lock, and twisted the lock, and voila! Lock fit perfectly without extreme warping. I will no longer resell this item. Thank God for curiosity and perseverance...and now, I can say with confidence--this lock!
(Still a little bitter about the plastic around the lock hole warping though.. My $1500 Macbook looks not so $1500. =( But learn and move on. =D)

--old review--
I agree with some people's review of Kensington alarms for Macbooks, although I wish I've read them before purchasing this lock. It did warp the plastic side and took me a while to lock/unlock it. The 1 Star is for at least making a nice alarmed lock for Laptops, but I was sorely disappointed when the plastic would warp every time I put the lock on my Macbook. Unfortunately, I need it for the cruise I'm going on next week, but am going to re-sell it as "used" and "anti-Macbook 13" when I come back home. If you own a Macbook 13" Series, it seems, so far, that Kensington locks are not recommended for you.

4Worth the extra buckSep 24, 2007
The reason why anyone should get a notebook security cable is to deter people from stealing a laptop. In this mentality, it really doesn't matter how good a lock is or how cheap it is as long as it looks like a lock. If someone wants to steal your laptop that bad then they probably will regardless of the lock. Now when it comes to a security lock with an alarm thats a different story. Like I said if someone wants to cut the cable they no is no reason they wold be unable to, but they won't know that there is an alarm attached which is the feature that people should be getting this product for. Both physical and audible security.
I've have been very satisfied with this lock. The only thing I don't like about it is that it is very stiff.

My son has been using this lock for his laptop in his college dorm and says he is very happy with it. he likes the idea of having the added security of the alarm.
