4HAS A MIND OF IT'S OWN.Nov 18, 2009
At times when you try to program a city into SELECT CITY box, you may get three or four letters, and the GPS picks up on a city that is not what you wantand it will not let you finish typing in the city you want. It notifies you just a little to late to make a turn if you should be in the wrong lane.
All ana all it does a good for the money spent and I would buy it again.

5Does the job.Oct 21, 2009
This isn't the first GPS navigator I've purchased. I'm no stranger to Magellan or Garmin. Both brands seem to work fine, but I find that Magellan is a little more user friendly. The RoadMate 1212 is small and doesn't have all the bells and whistles that a larger, more expensive model may have, but it gets me from point A to point B pretty efficiently. I love the little "ding" sound it makes when I'm supposed to make a turn. Especially useful when I'm driving in the dark and can't see street signs very well.

I'm actually reviewing the second one I received from Amazon. When I had initially placed the order, I received a defective model. The upper left-hand corner touch screen did not work. Amazon promptly sent out a replacement which I received the day after my complaint. Stellar service from Amazon as usual and my replacement works perfectly.

This is an excellent gps offered by Magellan. Out of the box its easy to hook up, understand and operate. Nice bright clear compact touch screen operation and speech functions make this a winner. The maps and route directions seem very well put together also and even when in doubt the unit alsways gets me from point a to point b. Check on free software update download and send in for your free 30 day spring 2009 map upgrade if you get this unit but be forewarned to get it in under the 30 days. My only slight complaint is that when I called and faxed into Magellan my proof of purchase they claimed by email that I was past 30 day free upgrade and wanted to sell it to me for reduced special price of $49.99 reduced from regular price of $79.99. What they failed to take into consideration was that my order date through Amazon was only over by 1 day but the ship date was 3 days later and technically I did not have in my possesion or own and operate the unit until 5 days later. I almost lost sleep over this over sight and could not wait to contact them the next day but then very nice supervisor agreed with me and corrected this and sent out my free upgarde quickly. It was scary though to think they were gonna try and get me on a technicality so be forewarned to get yours in on time just in case. Lastly Amazons price and service were very good and I am quite satisfied with the unit.

4good gpsSep 17, 2009
really good gps system for a great price. operates just as described. vocal turn by turn directions are great! only problem i have is that it only works when plugged in to lighter socket which is fine with me but probably is a battery problem. I would buy this gps again. my Mother has a Garmin but i see no reason to say hers is better.

2UnpredictableSep 11, 2009
I love this product, when it works! I bought three of them for my family to use, and at least 2 out of the three have not worked on occasion. One of them doesn't turn on anymore and then decides to turn on when not needed. There is obviously some issue with this device. I've had problems with the one I use too, it overheats easily and malfunctions quite frequently. When it works its fantastic but when it doesn't there is no point in having it at all. It can't be relied upon. I wish I could find another device more reliable. I wouldn't recommend this model.
