Sound is TerribleSep 17, 2009 I purchased these along with headsets to be used while traveling the sound is so bad that these have never been used so essentially I purchased to unusual paperweights.
I would not recommend this product to anyone.
Flawless performanceSep 10, 2009 I purchased these radios for backpacking. My wife stays at camp and I take off and fish and we like to be able to communicate. The radios worked very well with no static or interference. I made them part of a group with a privacy code and we heard no other radio traffic. I didn't even realize I had the radio with me until my wife called. My only complaint is the size (they are fairly large) and weight (they are a little heavy).

Midland GXT900VP4 2-way radiosAug 23, 2009 So far I'm happy with the radios. The 30 mile range is ridiculously over rated (for all but extremely ideal conditions) but still overall the radios performed very well. Last week a group of six couples took a road trip and we used the radios to communicate between vehicles and they worked well. The battery life is excellent and the clarity of sound was very good compared to a friends older radios.
Community emergency response team memberAug 09, 2009 I am delighted with the product. Speaker and receiver provide very clear reception even in adverse conditions where other gmrs/frs radios are used within close proximity. Instruction booklet is well written and and easily understood by non technical people. I would suggest two small improvements in the booklet. It would be nice see a full page devoted to the "Quick reference chart" so that it could be read without the aid of a magnifying glass. A quick reference column listing all of the 2 letter codes (on the LCD display) as they come up in sequence would be helpful during field work. The radios seem to have long battery life, but, If you run down the rechargeable batteries after multiple hours on high power, you can replace the battery pack with four AA batteries. If you operate on the GMRS channels, this radio has special high power, 5 watt output operating under very adverse conditions or unusually long distances. The over the ear mic-headset is comfortable and also a great convenience. The product as packaged with two radios, two rechargeable battery packs, home charger, car charger two over the ear mic-headsets makes this a steal at $80.00.
