Excellent uni-directional MONO mikeSep 16, 2009 This microphone has been an excellent addition! I use it to record to my Olympus WS-321M digital recorder, and I LOVE it for capturing my dictation or for capturing presentations/lectures that I give. The lapel clip and cord makes for easy and clear recording, while I keep the recorder in my pocket. This is excellent for audio interviews, as it eliminates much of the ambient noise; however, the cable isn't long enough for a video interview with a camcorder (seems long enough for a webcam interview). Also, when I want to capture comments from around the room, I remove this microphone. I just purchased a stereo omni-directional microphone, so I will try that for conference room discussions.
Note: this is a MONO microphone, which means it doesn't work with equipment that requires stereo inputs -- I found this out when trying to use it with my video camcorder and captured no sound (lost one video presentation!). It seems that this is the same problem some people are having with this microphone for their laptops. Also, that means that podcasts/recordings only come out of one headphone/speaker, which can be frustrating for listeners. If you are recording voice
I also downloaded some simple (and free) audio editing software (called FreeAudioDub) that allows me to cut, rename or save clips, delete extraneous filler.

plugged in and worked greatAug 29, 2009 My toughbook has no microphone built in. Tested with skype worked great. I previously owned a $30 set of Microsoft headphone mics that needed tons of calibration. This worked straight out of the box.
I didn't really notice much difference from the noise cancellation.

Great microphoneAug 06, 2009 This microphone is incredibly effective and small enough to carry anywhere you might need it. I would recommend it to anybody at any time.

Perfect for headphone carrying road warriorsJul 31, 2009 I have three of them. One I keep on my desk, the other two in laptop bag. I always want a spare microphone just in case something happens.
This is the perfect microphone for the road warrior that always carries a pair of (most likely noise canceling) stereo headphones with them everywhere they go and they do not want to double their storage space by also packing a "computer headset." Nor do they enjoy sporting the "Star Trek" look by wearing a glowing Bluetooth microphone.
Essenially they are for the person who wants the other half for VoIP calls with Skype et al.
The ME-52 has excellent audio quality (especially for the price). But it's the whole design that makes it worth while.
First it's unidirectional, meaning it will only pickup sounds that are generally speaking right in front of the mic element. To my surprise most tie-clip microphones are omni-directional, meaning they pickup sound from all over.
Next the mic itself is just a "stub." Meaning it can just plug into the mic jack on your laptop w/o any messy cords. I use it this way when calling home from my hotel room. It also comes with a 1 meter extension cord as well as a tie-clip. I use this when other people are in near proximity.
Again, perfect for someone who carries their headphones no matter what, and just wants to add a microphone for voice calls.

Background staticJul 15, 2009 While this mic works the one I bought seems to pick up background annoying hissing and buzzing...sounds about the same with or without the mic plugged in. I am using the muffler.
