I bought the 2gb version of this product initially. I bought it for it's water proofing. It it built sturdy. The arm band is of good quality. I had various problems with it. Some times it wouldn't start. It would keep initializing the database and would finally start after about 10 minues. The unit would reset. RCA took it back under warranty and sent me the 4gb version. It worked well for around 7 months. One day I loaded new songs on the unit. The next time I started it, it said 'initializing' and never got past that point. My PC no longer recognizes it. I'm not able to reset it. I don't recommend this product. You might get a year out of it. For the price I would expect to get 2 years.

1Bad At Any PriceSep 20, 2009
Compared to the Sony player and Creative Zen it is a piece of junk, but those aren't rugged enough for my workouts (I've lost both, to rain and over-use, respectively).

This player does *NOT* have a playlist option, at least not as most MP3 users would understand the term. Yes, you can build a "favorites" list from scratch as you play songs, but you cannot import a playlist you created in Windows Media Player (WMP). Also, the player does not fully recognize the information from WMP, so for example the songs on some albums show up in *alphabetical* order, not in album order. This happened both when I used WMP and when I used the software that came with the device. That's pretty unbelievable.

The buttons are clumsy to operate, good luck doing it on a cold day, with or without gloves.

Bottom line: I'm returning it. "Beggar's Banquet" is not supposed to start with "Dear Doctor."

5Excellent MP3 Player For Runners!Jun 17, 2009
This MP3 player is smaller than an ipod, has a great, secure armband and ear-wrapping sport earbuds. With 4GB of storage space, it holds all of my music and also can show videos if you want. I love the voice prompts to let you know how long you've been running so you don't have to keep checking your watch. The software can sometimes be quirky, but overall, this is an excellent little MP3 player. I love it! :^)

1Do not buy this device!Feb 09, 2009
I bought one of these for my son on his 15th birthday. About two months later, someone allegedly dropped it in the locker room at school and it did not work after that. I bought another one for him for Christmas. This time, he took good care of it, but about three weeks later, it just died for no apparent reason. When plugged in to the computer, it is not recognized and will not re-charge. n the RCA website, their is a procedure to reset the device if this happens, but we are unable to perform the procedure. All correspondence with RCA has not been responded-to. Upon reading the literature, we realized that there is no guarantee. I would recommend that you buy any MP3 player before you even consider an RCA product.

4Excellent optionSep 18, 2008
I did a little research prior to selecting this MP3 player. I knew I did not want an ipod, and I knew I wanted enough memory to play on long plane rides, the gym, whatever. So far, I've been very happy. The accompanying software is easy to use, as is the device itself. I've had no trouble at all adding music and using the radio function. I was able to upload music from my own PC, and I was able to use the software to burn selected tracks directly from a CD to the MP3 player. I've not used the audiobooks function or any of the fitness functions--so I can't speak to that. I have not evaluated the length of the battery life, since I've only used it intermittently so far. I did find the user manual easy to read--except for the audiobook function.

So far, I have only two complaints. First, the user manual recommends that you discharge the device fully before recharging--and it only charges when plugged into the PC. So, make absolutely certain that you know exactly what music you want on the device for that cycle of battery life, since it would appear that plugging in prematurely can shorten your battery life over time. I find it extremely annoying because I want to update my music selection frequently. Second, it allows for the creation of only one playlist, a favorites list. My preference would be that I could create playlists as it suits me. In all other respects, the device performs well. I would recommend it to anyone.
