Rhapsody Users BEWARENov 03, 2009 As a long time and happy Sansa e280 (now discontinued) user, I wanted more capacity. I only got the View to hold my tons of subcription and purchased music. From day one, I was unable to move my playlists over from Rhapsody (subscription music service) to the View. I also has squirrely trouble with tracks mysteriously going missing and groups of music only partially downloading. After being ping ponged from Sansa who blamed Rhapsody and Rhapsody who blamed Sansa for the trouble for four miserable days, I went on the internet and on Sansa's own site and started reading complaints from tons of users having similar issues. Some of the die hards wrote pages of instructions on how to navigate through the mire. Ridiculous! I can't speak about other media, but as far as I'm concerned, the View stinks as a recommended Rhapsody device and is not "compatible" as they say. Ultimately, Sansa stood behind the product and replaced it with a Fuze with 8G and and additional card with 16g. The Fuze works better but still isn't a seamless device with Rhapsody.
Disappointing... clunky operationOct 11, 2009 I bought the Sansa MP3 player over other MP3s because of its supposed connectivity with Rhapsody (which i love and have been a member of for years).
Technically, yes, one can download (with an upgraded Rhapsody subscription) music to the Sansa View, so one can listen to music off-line.
So that's all good and well. But the reality is that the MP3 player is so clunky, gives one so many headaches, it constantly freezes while connecting to Rhapsody music service, that in the end I gave up after having reformatted the device numerous times and wasted many hours to no avail.
Yes it does work. But with so many glitches that eventually one will give up on it.
And there are numerous irritating issues.
Example: Very slow fast forwarding. If you have language tracks of 20 minutes each (like I do, trying to learn a foreign language), and you want to forward to minute 15, it takes for ever.
Another example: Where are my tracks?!!! I can copy and paste from the Windows Explorer, and they do copy and show and play in my MP3 player, but they do not show in my PC when connected via the USB cable.
** Summary **
A lot of quirks.
Good points: it's got a decent FM radio.
Bad points: everything else.
Sansa View Awesome Hardware - Software Needs BulletSep 24, 2009 Sansa is the thinking man's alternative to Ipod/Apple's restrictive 'one-way and by-the-way it's our-way' provision of AAC encoded music and DRM listening.
Sansa 'View' offered me plenty of space, expandable with a large SDHC card, video, ease of loading music TO it, and works with Windows just fine without the included proprietary software.
Battery life is very good, it sounds wonderful and it's been in my pack for a couple months without failure. I listen to it with Shure E4c headphones and it pushes them plenty - the power is just fine.
HOWEVER - the software IN the unit is beyond-horrible. If you have 32Gb of music, it will take 3-4 *MINUTES* to 'refresh the database' then you finally have access to your media. Push the buttons too fast and it can't "think" fast enough to keep up, so you think it's locking up. But relax, it will figure it out and catch up to you in about 90 seconds. Mine consistently tells me the music is coming from an "Unknown Album" and *always* mismatches the reported artist to the reported song that's playing.
Still, it's better than Ipod because it works much the same as a USB thumbdrive, it's intuitive to put music on and sounds fine. I'd recommend it, and I do hope and pray on bended knee that RockBox (aftermarket software builder for Sansa and other MP3 players) will take the time to develop and Sansa View operating system replacement.
Wife loves itAug 26, 2009 I bought it for my wife. She loves it. Carries it everywhere. Absolutely the best value for the price.
Sweet little MP3 playerJun 10, 2009 I've only had this product a couple of days, but in terms of it being a compact, easy to navigate MP3 player I am more than happy. The other reviewers note that the diplay isn't as sexy as the ibits n peices and they are right. However, for simplicity, features, compatibility with everything and capacity - this player is about the best around for the money. Also I'm not chained to itunes.
