Even mom's like LoDJan 26, 2009 Well, I first saw this when my son was playing and thought "I could do this". So, I sat down one day and started. I was always good and telling what to do, but not so good at how to do it. If I can do this, anyone can! Even though this is an 'old' game, it's well worth the price to play.

a Return Look at a childhood classicOct 11, 2008 I grew up on PS RPGs, plain and simple. Of course, FFVII is a staple but personally I enjoyed LoD more: I believe FFVII is a better game but there was something about LoD that sticks with me more. I recently re-ordered this and am currently waiting for it to arrive! I first got this game when I was nine and I ordered it on my 17th birthday. As a preface to me revisiting this eight years later I will review based on my memory of the game tempered with an objective comparison to games of its time.
Plot:
I have heard many people ragging on LoD for its plot similarities to FFVII. It's an RPG guys. Around that time there wasn't much variation in plot elements, so you take what you can get.
The elements of extrapolation: Saving girlfriend leads to involvement in something bigger which in turn leads to something world-threatening, blahblahblah. It's the WAY this was executed, the little details and subtle idiosyncrasies that made the plot of the game awesome. It's my second favorite game plot, next to that of Planescape: Torment
Gameplay:
The additions system is pretty awesome, and even once you've got it down, some character's additions will still present a nice challenge. Eventually there are items that will automatically perform you additions for you if you find they are too terribly tedious, but I thoroughly enjoyed them.
There is so much more strategy involved in combat in this game, and the boss battles are the strongest part of the game. These surpass those of FFVII where you could count on being overpowered for almost every fight and rarely risk having to *egads!* give it a few tries. Some bosses will take several run throughs before you even get the feel for it. There's a rhythm to every fight and you have to be ready and willing to get in step. If you don't like exact planning and strategizing, play an RPG which lets you simply spam your x button through the final boss.
The world map feature IS limited, which can be kind of a downer but remember, the focal point of the game is the PLOT, and sidetracking would detract from the plot.
Visuals:
Very innovative, very unique, very awesome. Everything from the settings to the dragons and monsters themselves have a completely different take on them than most RPGs. The movie sequences were absolutely amazing for their time, and even still are stunning. Sony beat Blizzard to the punch, though Blizzard has certainly surpassed sony nowadays. (WotLK trailer, anybody?)
Sound:
Cheesy. But, I like cheesy. Again, the game is UNIQUE in these facets so it's a love or hate kind of thing.
Summation:
Do not come at this game in the mindset of your FFVII experience. Come in with a blank slate and let the game be itself without living in the shadow of its more successful counterpart- that's when the game will really shine.

Not a perfect game. but underratedOct 01, 2008 The Legend of Dragoon is a game that is seemlessly hated by critics and loved by gamers. I believe the Critics hated this game because they wanted to compare it to FF games. But this game is one of the greatest rpgs that exist. The game is a good 60 hours long in gameplay, the main characters being Dart, Shana, Rose, Lavitz, Albert, Meru, Haschel, Kongol, and Miranda. I will not go to deep into the story because there's no need to spoil anything. The gameplay for this game is great, easy controls and everything works smoothly. The only drawback is the World Map, you are forced to run across imaginary dots from dungeon to dungeon town to town which is a little dissapointing. But the towns and dungeons in this game are humongous and make up for the small world map. The graphics are amazing in this game, much like FF VII-IX for ps the backgrounds look like paintings, pure art. The battle system is also unique in that you can choose different "additions" which as you progress through the game you will get more. These additions are like combo's, you have to push the X button in perfect sequence to master your addition. Also the Dragoons in this game are very cool, the game allows you to transform in battle into a dragoon. The music in this game is very average, some of the music can be a little cheesy but it is memorable nonetheless. This is a great game and cannot be missed by any rpg fan of any generation.
