Good for the price I paidFeb 17, 2010 This is a pretty neat controller and it syncs right up with Virtual DJ if you're gonna go that route. There are some things to know first:
You can't switch thumb drives on the fly which is kinda irritating but that's only when you have 2 people with complete different styles mixing on the same table.
I've found the only effective way to mix with it is to use the pitch bend which really isn't too big of a deal honestly but I was expecting to use the platter and such. The spindle in the middle feels weird to use since it's WAY more sensitive than a vinyl table's and the direct drive motor doesn't respond like I'm used to. But you gotta keep in mind, it's not an SL1200.
The built in effects are way better than what's on my mixer so I just use them straight from the unit itself.
The cue button doesn't work like any Pioneer model's does. Don't except to use it to tap in time with the beat because you have to mash it hard and right dead center to get it to properly work. I've learned to just tap the controller itself since I've been told I hit the cue button really hard anyways.
All in all it's a good piece of gear, especially if you're low on space like me and if you plan on using it with a laptop, it get's even better.
Great turntables for the present and future.....Jan 26, 2010 The best on the market for what they do. I own 2 decks that were purchased from Amazon in May and August of 09. I paid $450 for one and $380 for the other brand new. Fantastic deal that was all about timing, shortly after Denon removed them from there lineup and the price shot through the roof everyplace. Denon still supports the turntables though and have just recently released another firmware update 1400 which makes them a very stable unit. I have done sets from one unit using the dual deck feature as well as using the d-link feature with 2 decks and everything works like it should. I have 250GB internal hard drives installed in both units which I mirror my database on both. I love the dual deck feature because I use it as a backup. example: If one of my decks fails or drive fails I have a complete system still to finish the set without having to carry CDs or a PC along. The feel is fantastic and professional especially with an actual vinyl record attached. A much better feel then Pioneer CDJs, which I always thought feel cheap and don't have the spinning platter. I will be keeping these decks for many years to come and I don't think there will be anything on the market close to replacing them for many years. Get them if you want a closer feel to actual vinyl but still want to be in the digital age of DJn' without being the face buried in the Computer DJ.
Most bang for your buck out of any CDJ on the marketJan 07, 2010 I'm a college kid so I started out looking for a new pair of CDJs with low hopes. I even considered a used pair of the old technic SL-DZ 1200s. Ebay had some good used equipment, but you'd be paying $700 for a single CDJ. Did some more homework and found this piece of hardware, got it without the optional disc drive for roughly $600 on amazon. There isn't a better deal out there. The quality of the deck is apparent as soon as you assemble the platter.
Having two decks in one is incredible. It makes it easy to go through a set list without matching cds up or digging through laptop folders, a cd case etc. Even granting simple song requests is done without stress.
I had no latency problems with 320gb WD hard drive, usb stick is also great for taking smaller sets on the road. It takes 30-1hr for the denon to build a library for all the tracks (300+gbs), but once its done you can turn it on and start mixing in seconds. USB stick only takes a minute or two, making it easy to add new sets without too much wait. The ability to use a keyboard is something I haven't tried, but next gear upgrade I will be looking into it.
Installing the optional CD drive was a breeze, took less than ten minutes. Only bummer was you can only use the cd drive on one of the decks, not both at the same time. This makes sense though, and when coupled with an external hard drive its hard to complain.
I've had the deck for 3 months and there are no signs of wear yet, couldn't be happier with this purchase. I know I'll be using this deck for a long time. And to think, amazon had the best deal on DJ gear?!?! Who knew!
Great Multimedia Control UnitNov 23, 2009 After owning a S5000 and s3500 Players, this multimedia controller with the internal Hard Drive or using it with a PC, is a very, very, good option.
You can connect a USB Drive loaded with music, a keyboard to search all the library, sync it with another HS5500 unit. Using it with Serato or Virtual DJ, is simply wonderful.
this is a good option and cheap one for digital mixing. You wont regret it.
go for this.

SweeeetAug 14, 2009 This player is so cool. I got a couple of them. it is easy to connect with my Laptop and use like MIDI controller for DJ Traktor PRO. That thing that you have two decks in one player makes possible to use all 4 decks in the Tracktor.
Just some moments...
Of course latency.
And it couldn't read my external hard drive 500 gb. So I have bought two mini USB Flash Drives 16 Gb each.
It is better for high quality sound to buy good cables.
Wanna funny slipmats? you can create your own and just print it out (all instructions on Denon website) with your girlfriend picture... for example.
Have a great DJing =)
