3Customer Support Review Only - Mediocre at BestMar 02, 2010
WD customer support is very poor. I have called 4 times and each person is basically new to the company working there about 4 months. There product knowledge is superficial. Many of them have heavy accents and are somewhat difficult to understand also. The woman I am talking to now has put me on hold about 6 times, but at least she is the best one I've spoken with.

This is what i gathered

My Book Home, Office and Studio - have Anywhere backup - can select files to back up - more flexible than Smartware

My Book Home
- 3 different ways to connect - USB, eSata, Firewire
- Mionet - can access drive on the web from another computer

My Book Office - USB connect only
My Book Studio - USB and Mac users

Of all the external drives I've purchased over the years, my most recent purchase, the 1 TB Western Digital "My Book Home Edition", unfortunately holds the record for the WORST PRODUCT QUALITY of any so far. It seemed strangely noisy right out of the box, took several attempts before it would format for Mac, and then failed altogether THE FIRST DAY. Judging from the ratings, other editions of this drive are a better bet. I certainly don't recommend the Home Edition.

4WD My Book TB Usb,FireWire 400 and eSATA External Hard DriveJan 18, 2010
I have been using my 1 TB drive for the last year with no problems. Use it as my music library. Tons of work ripping CDs, recording cassettes and albums. Problem with FireWire after 14 months of use. Kept getting blue screen of death when computer went to sleep. Windows hotfix supposed to fix problem (not!). Drive finally would not come up in Vista. Tried USB and drive finally came up. Re-tried FireWire connection (faster and works better with audio and video), and Vista reloaded drivers and now the drive works fine. I have three WD drives (2 USB only 500G and 1 TB triple interface). They all are working great. I decided to lay the drives on their sides to let air flow through the enclosure (top and bottom) which may help keep them a little cooler. These are good drives (even the refurbished one which I bought),however software and driver issues may cause problems. Check WD site's support knowledge base as there is some useful information. Would not waste my time calling. I plan to buy another triple interface drive and daisy chain it off my existing one.

1Poor writing speed, not even close to 60mb/s advertizedDec 17, 2009
Hi guys.
All things are good about this drive BUT speed of writing. I am not sure how important it is for somebody. I believe reliability and throughput are 2 most important parameters for external drive.
It shows 13mb/s or 104 mbits/sec.
This device produces less than 25% !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
of frequently advertised throughput on box of 480mbits/sec as usb 2.0 ability.
My other 2 compact drives which are not using external power supply but usb port fire 20mb/sec.
Still too slow but at least better than this one.
Other then that - case, printing materials, workmanship are excellent.
I believe somebody on technical side in WD did very poor job.

Only external drives I like. I needed to upgrade my dated 250GB my book I've had for years since it was full. These drives are reliable and tough. Never had a single problem. Just plug in and go!
