 great mp3 player at a terrific priceNov 04, 2009
I was searching for an mp3 player to listen to audio books on. I read all of the Amazon reviews and decided to give the Iriver E100 a try. I'm happy to say that after a month of use, I'm still delighted with my purchase. Amazing features for an inexpensive player. Probably the only things that are less than perfect are the sound quality of the built-in speakers and the inability to customize file navigation, all of which are just minor issues compared with the overall performance. I did follow other reviewers suggestions of updating the software.
I highly recommend this product!

For the price of the iRiver E100 it stands pretty well on it's own. The sound quality is excellent and the numerous features it offers over similar MP3 players is a plus as well. The main problem I had with the player was the plastic body. And after a few drops on the ground the player still managed to function until the last fall. The screen cracked in three places and the earphones jack barely functions anymore. Stronger body means longer lasting product for those clumsy consumers.

Wow, this little guy is by my side day and night!!!!!!!!! Easy to use, easy to program. It's great!!!! I especially love the recording!!! Not to mention the FM radio available!!!!! I would buy another one in a heart beat!!!

I was using small iriver players with AA or AAA battery for ~7 years - and I loved them.
The last one was T60 - unfortunately they don't make them any more.
My primary use - education (listenning to lectures, interviews, etc.)
So I bought the E100.
Pros:
- it can play and charge at the same time (USB connector)
(for long trips without electricity you can get a 3rd party
external battery-driven charger with USB output)
- it allows to separate your tracks into subfolders
- it can play some video files (but not wmv, mpg, or mp4).
Cons:
- It is slow reacting to pressing the buttons. You have to wait couple seconds to see if it reacts or not. Sometimes to do something simple (like moving to a previous track) takes me several tries and ~30 seconds. This is really annoying.
- The controls are NOT intuitive - the old players had MUCH better interface.
- When I do rewind - it stops once it reaches the begining of the track. There is no way to jump to the end of the previous track. Very inconvenient when I am listenning to a lecture and want to rewind.
- There is no way to delete a track without playing it first. On the old player you could delete tracks while seeing the list. In E100 you have to start the track playing - then press right button long time to invoke the options menu - and only then you will be able to delete the file.
- E100 was hanging on some files (especially video files) - and the only way to make it work was to reset it by pressing a paper-clip into the reset hole.
Overall it is still a good solid device and I can live with it. I just don't understand why Iriver developers made the interface so inconvenient (much worse than on the previous models).
